In recent years, with the increase in the number of tourists traveling to Australia, the number of flights to and from Brisbane International Airport has also been increasing. To better meet the travel experience of passengers, Brisbane International Airport decided to upgrade and renovate the existing North Terminal in 2018:
Add 6 boarding gates.
At the same time, build 4 new boarding bridges and 2 access gates.
These new facilities will provide greater convenience for passengers entering and leaving the aircraft, and will also allow Brisbane International Airport to accommodate ultra-widebody aircraft, including the Airbus A380.
Strong alliance
In the initial stage of the project, the contractor Laing O'Rourke put forward clear requirements for the interior decoration: hoping to create a spacious, atmospheric, quiet and clean indoor space. At the same time, in terms of the overall building, the owner strives to maximize building efficiency and passenger comfort, while taking into account modern aesthetics and design trends, in order to maintain its "popularity" in the coming years.
To achieve this goal, Laing O'Rourke specially invited professional technicians from the famous design companies Woods Bagot and Armstrong Ceilings to jointly build a variety of ceiling solutions to meet this requirement and ensure the integrity of the project services.
Complementary advantages
Finally, Armstrong provided four different ceiling solutions to meet the various unique needs of different spaces in the airport.
-Main passage: Metal C-shaped strip plate (perforated) with the same color Aixing finishing system (3000㎡).
-Waiting hall & boarding gate: Extreme + (recessed) with 24mm wide aluminum alloy keel (1000㎡).
In order to alleviate the huge noise pressure brought by the large passenger flow in the main passage, Armstrong uses a combination of white U-shaped keel and V-P500 metal sound-absorbing pendants on the top of the hall. The overall appearance of the system is smooth and orderly, and it provides ample space for the entry of natural light.
In order to make the transition of the top ceiling from the hall to the waiting hall more natural, we also installed a set of bamboo grille ceilings between the two, extending from the edge of the sound-absorbing pendants to the side of the top metal C-shaped strip plate finishing. At the same time, in order to maintain visual consistency, the bamboo grille adopts the same horizontal arrangement as the C-shaped strip plate, and linear light strips are distributed among them, playing a finishing touch.

The multi-faceted ceiling solutions provided by Armstrong Ceilings have a clean and smooth appearance, and perfectly match the architect's original design intentions. The modern and simple style shown in the top ceiling area also complements the popular design trends.
The renovated and expanded North Terminal has been in operation since the beginning of 2018 and will continue to serve more guests traveling to Brisbane in the coming years.
